The College-Level Examination Program, or CLEP, allows you to turn previously acquired knowledge into credit hours to help you towards achieving your degree.
The way it works is simple. Buy a test ticket from the College Board for a particular subject. Make an appointment at a testing center. Take the test. If you achieve a passing score, receive college credits for the equivalent course at your institution.
Purchasing a CLEP Exam Ticket
Your name on your College Board CLEP ticket MUST match the name on your government-issued photo ID with signature.
Otherwise, you will be dismissed and asked to change your name.
Making an Appointment for Testing
Our administrative fee is $25. You must pay with a credit or debit card on the day of your appointment.
Please arrive fifteen (15) minutes early to your appointment. A grace period of fifteen (15) minutes will be extended. After this, you will be considered a late arrival and testing is not guaranteed.
Please make sure of the following prior to your appointment:
1. Bring All the Necessary Items
- Government-issued ID with photo and signature (driver license, passport, Florida ID, etc.)
- A credit or debit card to pay the $25 administration fee
- The CLEP exam ticket with matching first and last name. [The College Board’s ID requirements]
2. Testing with Accommodations
- Bring the proper documentation showing your granted disability-related accommodations. The letter from the College Board showing such accommodations is sufficient.
- If you are an FSW Student registered with the Office of Adaptive Services, you can use your accommodations listed in your Letter of Accommodations (LOA).
- Please notify us a week in advance if you intend to use disability-related accommodations.

3. Register for the Correct Exam
- FSW has to give you credit hours for the exam. For more information, consult our Credit by Examination information, under the Degree Acceleration section of our Academic Catalog.
- You must designate Florida SouthWestern State College as the recipient institution at the moment you purchase your CLEP ticket.
- The CLEP score transcript takes between four to six weeks to process. Take the test in advance.
