Am I required to take a placement exam?
According to section 1008.30(4)(a) Florida Statute, two types of students are exempt from taking the placement test:
- Students who began the 9th grade in a Florida public school during the 2003-2004 school year (or entered 9th grade in a Florida public school any year after 2003-2004) and received a standard diploma from a Florida public school are exempt and may choose whether or not they wish to take the placement test.
- Active duty members of any branch of the United States Armed Services are exempt and may choose whether or not they wish to take the placement test.
How would I know if I am not exempt from placement testing?
Once the Office of Admissions has reviewed your high school transcript and admitted you to FSW, your testing exemption will be updated. The follow steps will assist you in determining if you have an Assessment Hold:
- Login to your FSW Student Portal
- Go to the “New Students” tab
- Review and complete all items under “Prepare for Registration”
- If you have an Assessment hold, you will need to resolve the hold following testing requirements for non-exempt students.
- If you believe you should be exempt, you will need to provide your high school transcript or active duty documentation to the Office of Admissions at any FSW location.
