An Early Alert is a notice that your instructor submits when there is a concern about your performance in class. Early Alerts may identify frequent absences, missed assignments or exams, or poor performance in class.
The good news is that when a professor Early Alerts you, it shows that the professor cares about you and wants you to succeed in the class and at Florida SouthWestern State College. When an Early Alert representative contacts you, they always recommend that you meet with them in person. Your Early Alert representative then works with you to create a step by step plan of action to help get you back on track. This plan may involve participation in workshops or visits to one or more of FSW’s on campus resources. The information provided in these sessions gives you insight and tools to take the steps necessary to be successful in your courses.
Does an Early Alert referral mean that I am failing the class?
Receiving an Early Alert referral may or may not mean that you are failing the class. Sometimes, you are not failing a class, but your performance is weak. Occasionally, the referral is about other issues. Speak directly to your course instructor to clarify the reason for the alert and to get a better idea of where you stand in the class. Don’t wait until it’s too late in the game to recover.
