Becoming a Buc is Florida SouthWestern State College's signature one-day orientation event that helps new students transition confidently into college life. Designed to jumpstart your success, this event connects you with the resources, people, and support systems that will guide you through your first semester and beyond.
Parents and families take part in dedicated sessions that provide guidance on how to support their student’s college journey.
Together, students and parents are introduced to important campus resources, departments, and support systems, setting the stage for a successful first semester and beyond.


What Happens at Becoming a Buc:
Advising & Class Registration
Students meet with academic advisors to plan their schedules, choose classes, and ensure they’re on track to meet their goals.
College 101
Students discover what to expect in their first semester, including available resources, how to seek help, and tips for making the most of their time at FSW.
Campus Connection
Students learn about campus life, clubs, support programs, and important offices such as Student Involvement, Advising, and Student Transitions.
Financial Aid & Support Services
Students receive hands-on assistance with financial aid, providing information and guidance on processes to help them understand and manage funding options.



University Tour Series
Exploring your next steps beyond FSW
The University Tour Series gives students the opportunity to visit four-year colleges and universities, helping them prepare for a smooth and informed transfer after FSW. These guided trips offer a firsthand look at campus life, academic programs, and admissions processes, making it easier to envision and plan for your future educational goals.
