Biography

Dr. Roger Webster is currently a Professor of Computer Science at Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) in Ft. Myers, Florida (2019-present). He also does some consulting and software development for a variety of applications, most notably mobile apps for IPhone and iPad devices for the Apple App Store and Android phone apps for the Google Play Store. Since 2011, Dr. Webster has designed, developed, and published several IPhone/IPad and Android Apps that are available on the Android Google Play Store and Apple App Store. He has sold apps (with over 450,000 total user installs) and developed apps for corporations and non-profit organizations.

Education (Degrees and Certifications)

Dr. Roger Webster has earned the Ph.D. (1988) and M.S. (1986) degrees in Computer Science from Temple University's School of Engineering, an M.S. in C.I.S. from Bentley College (1982), and a B.S. degree from the University of Maine (1978). He has spent sabbaticals at MIT (1990-91) taking courses in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, and as a visiting researcher at the University of Pennsylvania's Human Simulation and Computer Graphics Laboratory (1997) studying virtual reality and simulation; and as a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania's Computer Graphics and Game Technology (CGGT) Program (2004) studying 3D Graphics and Game Development. He was a Professor of Computer Science at Millersville University (Penn State College System) from 1983 - 2018. He retired from MU after 35 years on May 25, 2018. Prior to coming to Millersville University in 1983, Dr. Webster worked at the Hewlett-Packard Corporation's Medical Systems Division in Waltham, Massachusetts as a Software Engineer (1979-1983).

Research (Publications, Presentations, and Other Projects)

Dr. Webster has been awarded, directed, and participated in a number of National Science Foundation (NSF) projects and other externally funded research in: Android and IOS/IPhone/IPad App Development, Video Game Development, Surgical Simulation, 3D Graphics/Virtual Reality, Haptic Programming Environments, Artificial Intelligence, Robot Vision, and Real-Time Systems Engineering. He has published over 60 scientific articles in Computer Science and has presented his work at professional conferences all over the world. Dr. Webster has designed, developed and taught many computer science courses including: COP3655 Application Development for Mobile Devices (FSW), CS419 Mobile Device App Development, COP3538 Data Structures for IT (FSW), CS456 Robotics and Computer Vision, CS475 3D Game Programming and Computer Animation, CS340 Computational Models, and CS380 Operating Systems.

US Open Pickleball Championships, Naples, Florida, consulting project (December 2019 - February 2020) to design, build and deploy an Android App entitled: “An RFID Security Entrance Android App for the US Open Pickleball Championships Naples, Florida”, this App reads VIP patron RFID tags on a Turck RFID hand held smart phone device and checks authorized entry using a MySql Data Base on a LAN server.
