First-Year Success

Supporting new students by providing resources and programs for a smooth start, fostering a sense of belonging and connection within the campus community (e.g., Peer Mentors, SLS 1515 Cornerstone Experience Course, Guided Pathways, Student Success Workshops).

Peer Mentors

Peer mentoring is a valuable opportunity for students to support their peers, share experiences, and foster a sense of community at FSW. Peer Mentors play a crucial role in helping students feel connected, supported, and engaged during their first semester. They cultivate an environment that promotes personal growth, academic success, and a sense of belonging.

SLS 1515 Cornerstone Experience Course

The Cornerstone Experience (SLS 1515) course helps students transition to college life by helping first-year students acquire critical thinking and decision-making skills for academic success. It covers topics like goal setting, time management, career exploration, study skills, health and wellness, financial management, and more. The knowledge gained in the course will equip students for success not only at FSW but also in their personal and professional lives.

Guided Pathways

An Academic and Career Pathway consists of degree or certificate programs focused on a specific career area. Programs within a pathway share similar interests, skills, and opportunities for transfer or gain employment. Think of pathways as road maps guiding your education toward your career destination.

Student Success Workshops

Student Success Workshops help students excel in and out of the classroom. These interactive sessions offer practical strategies to improve personal and academic achievement, making college more rewarding and manageable. Available throughout the semester, both in-person and on-demand, the workshops provide many opportunities to enhance skills. Whether you're a new or continuing student, these workshops will help you navigate college and achieve your academic and personal goals. Some of the workshop topics include navigating the college experience, time management, SMART goals, test-taking strategies, financial literacy, study skills, and more.
