Job Corps to Hold Free Orientation at Edison State College
Job Corps will be partnering with the Continuing Education Department of Edison State College. A free Job Corps orientation will be held at Edison State College Lee Campus on Tuesday, October 12th from 10:00am to 12:00 noon in Taeni Hall, S117.
Through a nationwide network of campuses, Job Corps offers a comprehensive array of career development services to at-risk young women and men, ages 16 to 24, to prepare them for successful careers. Job Corps employs a holistic career development training approach which integrates the teaching of academic, vocational, employability skills and social competencies through a combination of classroom and practical learning experiences to prepare youth for stable, long-term, high-paying jobs.
Job Corps has been awarded funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 to be used for rehabilitation and acquisition, as well as operations needs. Since the act was signed into law one year ago, Job Corps has implemented student training programs and commenced projects on more than 65 centers, helping create and retain jobs. Edison State College is currently the only Job Corps Center in Southwest Florida.
“Our affiliation with Job Corps is consistent with Edison State’s objective of trying to direct students into fulfilling career ambitions,” explained Adrian Kerr, Director of Continuing Education at Edison State.
The Job Corps orientation will explain the mission of the program, the eligibility requirements and admission process. Attendees will learn about career opportunities available through Job Corps as well as other benefits of the program.
