Sep 17, 2010

Nicole Flesvig, the Director of Administrative Services for Edison State College Collier Campus, has been selected to participate in Leadership Collier, a program of the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce Leadership Collier Foundation.  Flesvig will be inducted into the Class of 2011 on September 23, 2010.  Edison State College is the only post-secondary institution to be represented this year.

The Leadership Collier Foundation administers programs designed to hone the skills of key leaders for the purpose of discussing challenges and opportunities facing the community. Launched in 1989, Leadership Collier is a 9-month program designed to educate local business leaders about the societal and economic challenges of the Collier County community. Prospective participants must first submit a detailed application for consideration, and only a few are selected each year for the Leadership Collier program.

“Leadership Collier is an exceptional program that cultivates emerging leaders in our community.  Ms. Flesvig’s diverse background and experience in the field of education make her an excellent candidate for this program,” said Dr. Jeffery Allbritten, Edison State College Collier Campus President.

Flesvig’s education career spans 17 years.  Beginning in 1993 as a foreign language instructor at the State University of NY at Buffalo, she relocated to Naples in 1995 where she taught French language and linguistics at Naples High School for eight years.  She relocated to Tallahassee in 2003 to pursue a PhD in linguistics as well as teach at Florida State University.   In 2006, she joined the Florida Department of Education as an education policy consultant and the agency’s teacher liaison, communicating with the state’s K-12 teachers on behalf of Governors Bush and Crist.  In 2008, she returned to Naples to serve as Vice President for Educator Programs at the Education Foundation of Collier County, where she administered the Golden Apple Teacher Recognition program selection process, as well as other programs benefitting local educators. A year later, she started her own public relations business before joining Edison State College in 2009.

Based at the Collier Campus, she now oversees a number of campus departments and works closely with the campus president on new initiatives and special projects. A mother of two young children and never too far from her passion for foreign language, Nicole is also an expert advice columnist on language learning for the Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples. She currently holds a Master of Arts degree and is in the process of writing her PhD dissertation.

The Edison State College Collier Campus, 7007 Lely Cultural Parkway, is located off Collier Boulevard, three miles north of Tamiami Trail East.

Celebrating nearly 50 years of excellence, Edison State College is Southwest Florida’s largest, most established, accessible and affordable institution of higher education. Edison State serves more than 20,000 students yearly in five counties and through the Edison Online virtual campus. For more information visit www.edison.edu.
