Krystal Walters is many things. She's a small-town girl, a 2010 Riverdale High School graduate, a music education major at Edison State College and a rising country singer.
After recording the first five songs of her new CD, "This ain't Kansas," at Studio West, a renowned Nashville recording studio, she went back in July to record five more more.
The Lehigh Acres teenager began doing demo work locally at Vibe Recording Studio in Fort Myers with producer Ted Watts, who's taken her under his wing.
Watts arranged for Walters to go to Nashville and get her start, including the opportunity to record her music.
Walters said she wrote her first song when she was 13, but her family said she'd been musical since before she could speak.
"Since I was 3, my grandma started having me sing my name to learn how to spell it," she said. "I grew up singing in church, school choirs."
"Every time I sing or perform it not only makes me happy, but everyone around me gets really into it."
Her CD has a country edge with a rock twist. It's upbeat and fast with songs to dance to as well as music with a message.
"I pretty much write about just anything I'm going through, whatever is on my mind," she said.
