James & Barbara Moore Observatory to host public viewings May 14-15

PUNTA GORDA – The final public viewings of the season for the James & Barbara Moore Observatory located on Edison State College Charlotte Campus will be Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15. The viewing scheduled for Saturday, May 21 has been canceled.
The final viewing was split into two nights and moved up to provide patrons more opportunity to enjoy the night sky. All sessions are free to the public and held at least once monthly from September through May, weather permitting. Special group viewings can be arranged, free of charge, throughout the year by calling the Observatory Information Line at 941-637-3518.
Sessions typically begin about 30-45 minutes after dark and continue as long as stargazers linger. Visitors are not permitted into the observatory prior to complete darkness as equipment needs to be setup and aligned. Patrons are welcome to arrive early to enjoy the picnic area and lake views around the observatory at Edison State College Charlotte Campus.
