Over 200 Edison State College Charlotte campus students will soon complete their degrees and many will participate in this year’s commencement ceremony at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center on May 6.  One of the highlights of the ceremony will be the announcement of the 2010 recipients of the President’s Award, the Outstanding Graduate in Arts and Sciences and the Outstanding Graduate in Professional and Technical Studies. Kristen Havener, a nominee for both the President’s Award and the Outstanding Graduate in Arts and Sciences, will speak on behalf of the student body.

New this year will be a Standard Bearer who will lead the student processional and recessional at the ceremony.  Chosen by the faculty and staff for this prestigious honor this year is Terri Riley, Executive Assistant to the Campus President, for her significant contributions to our entire campus community.

Featured speaker for the ceremony will be Mr. Tom Rice, Chief Executive Officer of Fawcett Memorial Hospital. Charlotte County’s Fawcett Memorial Hospital is an acute care facility with its medical staff of more than 250 physicians representing a broad range of services in many different medical, surgical, diagnostic and rehabilitation specialties. Fawcett is accredited by the Joint Commission and many of its programs have additional recognition by other national certifying agencies. In addition to his duties at Fawcett, Mr. Rice also serves as a board member for many local agencies and is a Fellow of the American College of Heathcare Executives.

All family, friends and community members are invited to join in this celebration of the enduring dedication and commitment of the graduating students. No tickets are required for the event that begins at 6 p.m. in the Center located at 75 Taylor St. in Punta Gorda.  A reception with light refreshments will be held immediately following the ceremony.
