Edison Collegiate High School to host Climate Change Summit
PUNTA GORDA – The inaugural class of Edison Collegiate High School will host a Climate Change Summit in the Edison State College Charlotte Campus auditorium from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 13.
ECHS students have formed 25 groups of four with each presenting a project at the summit, which is open to the public. Projects will address questions such questions as: Are there benefits to global warming? Should we spend money to adapt to the changing climate conditions or to solve the issue? What are the political aspects of global warming? How has science been influenced by factors other than the date?
“We have very bright and ambitious students at Edison Collegiate High School,” Principal Diane Juneau said. “Our freshmen have competed admirably against upperclassmen at the regional science fair and county history fair, with three history winners advancing to the state competition in May. So we are anticipating thoughtful, stimulating and innovative projects in response to the significant issue of global climate change.”
Edison State College has declared 2010 the Year of the Environment. Students, faculty and staff on each campus are dedicated to promoting a healthier, green environment as ESC looks to reduce its carbon footprint and continue its role as a community leader.
