THE MEDIA IS INVITED.
Edison State is also proud to announce that one of our esteemed staff is presiding over this year’s events. Fredrick D. Morgan II is the co-coordinator for Project HOPE at Edison State College’s Lee campus and a familiar advocate for youth in SW Florida. His community service and commitment has garnered numerous awards including recognition by The News Press as an Outstanding Leader and History Maker in 2006 and being awarded a Key to the City of Fort Myers in 2008. Morgan is President of the Dunbar Festival Committee and Chair of the 2010 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration. Under Mr. Morgan’s leadership in the past several years, the event has grown from a few thousand people to approximately 12,000 celebrants last year.
The Dunbar Festival Committee created the Hall of Fame four years ago to recognize outstanding individuals in the community. This year’s honoree Genese Badeau is a first generation college student. She is an Edison State HOPE (Help One Person Excel) Scholar, and a recipient of the Stake Stock in Children award. Genese plans to pursue a degree in Nursing and currently volunteers in the community helping people with disabilities.
Hall of Fame honoree Shawn Davis has participated in numerous leadership roles. Shawn is currently the President of the ESC Student Government Association and has tutored Upward Bound students. He is a HOPE Scholar and member of Phi Beta Kappa, the National Honors’ Society. His commitment, energy and enthusiasm have made him an exemplary role model for youth in our community.
In addition to honoring the new Hall of Fame members, the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Dinner will award scholarships for an outstanding male high school student in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and an outstanding female high school student in honor of Rosa Parks.
