NCEF Early Childhood Development Center at Edison Collier Campus Has Openings for State-Funded VPK for 4 Year Olds

Space is available, and the classroom ready, to house a second Voluntary Prekindergarten class in the early childhood development center on the Edison College Naples campus. The program is offered free – the state provides funds for up to 540 hours per student per school year. The center is currently seeking students for this program.

 

Approved by Florida voters as a constitutional amendment in November 2002, VPK was signed into law Jan. 2, 2005. The voluntary program provides free preschool classes for all Florida residents, regardless of income, and is jointly administered by the state’s Department of Education, the Agency for Workforce Innovation, and the Department of Children and Families.

 

The purpose of VPK is to promote learning readiness, social skills and the ability to work cooperatively in preparation for kindergarten among four-year-olds. According to the Florida Department of Education, VPK is seen as one more year to reach the state’s goal of having all of children reading on grade level by the end of third grade.  Read Complete Story
