Observe Great American Smokeout Day at Edison State College
Nov 6, 2009
National Great American Smokeout Day is Thursday, November 19. The purpose of the American Cancer Society designated event is to set aside a day each year to help smokers quit smoking and/or using tobacco products, for at least one day, with the hope that they will quit completely. Now that the Charlotte campus is a tobacco-free zone, in observance of the day this year, Edison State College along with Fawcett Hospital, Murdock Family Medicine and the Punta Gorda Tennis and Fitness Club will be sponsoring a free event - open to all - from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. Get the right tools to stop smoking now and for the rest of your life!
The event will begin by the bell tower with free blood pressure screenings and pulmonary function testings conducted by Fawcett health professionals from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. At 9:00, the Punta Gorda Tennis & Fitness Club will give Yoga demonstrations to show how the exercises can be used as one of the tools to help in the struggle for total tobacco cessation. Then, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. in SA117, Dr. Dan Kennedy and other professionals from Murdock Family Medicine will present a “Stop Smoking Seminar.” At the close of the seminar, Edison State will hold a “Cold Turkey Sandwich” giveaway. Exchange your cigarette donation for a lunch!
