Edison State College Board of Trustees elected a new Chairman for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.  Dr. Randall Parrish was unanimously elected Tuesday, June 23, 2009 to a one-year term as head of the College Board.

"I am truly honored to serve as chairman of the board of trustees of Edison State College,” said Parrish.  “This institution played a huge role in getting me where I am today and I am grateful that I have this opportunity to give back in this way.  Had it not been for Edison in Fort Myers when I graduated from high school, I may not have had the opportunity to go to college.  It is a real pleasure to work with the members of the board, administration, faculty and staff of such a well run, progressive organization."

Dr. Parrish is a practicing optometrist and a proud alumnus of Edison College.  Dr. Parrish was appointed to the board in March 2006 by then-governor Jeb Bush.  He and his family live in LaBelle.

Current trustee member, Chris Vernon, will serve as vice chairman for the coming year.  Vernon is a practicing attorney; he and is family live in Naples.

Board members and Edison State College President, Dr. Kenneth Walker extend a warm thanks to Dr. William Baquero who most recently served as Board Chairman.

“It has been my pleasure serve on the Board of Trustees for this highly innovative College,” said Baquero.  “I have enjoyed being a part of this forward thinking organization.  Edison State is a true asset to the Southwest Florida community.”

Dr. Baquero is a general practitioner specializing in gerontology through his practice in Fort Myers. He served as an Edison College trustee since 1997.

As directed by College policy the Board of Trustees elects a new chair at the close of each fiscal year.
