Edison State's Summer Escape Program

Jun 24, 2009

The Edison State College Academy of Professional Exploration- or ESCAPE - is hosting over 100  incoming  high school seniors  this year at the Lee campus. An innovative and hands-on high school career academy , the Summer ESCAPE program  received a “Champion’s Award” last year from the Southwest Florida Workforce Development Board for preparing students for future careers in public safety and the medical field.

Students sample college coursework through hands-on learning experiences which included driving ambulance simulators, handling the Jaws of Life, exercises involving heart catheter insertions and radiology imaging, as well as nursing scenarios with SimMan models. Snapshots of working in various careers extend beyond the classroom with visits to the county courthouse, the U.S. Courthouse and Federal Building, medical examiner’s office and participation in hands-on crime scene investigation scenarios.

ESCAPE is the result of a cooperative program between Edison State College and the Lee County School District. The two are committed to developing integrated programs that allow students to explore and experience diverse jobs and career paths. The cumulative goal is to prepare students for the next step following graduation, whether it is continuing their education or entering the workforce.

Summer Escape will be in session June 15-26.
