Edison State Professor Publishes New Book

Jun 10, 2009

Professor Adrian Kerr, the force behind Edison State College’s expanding Continuing Education Department, is now a published author.

A noted Egyptologist,   Kerr has spent several decades regularly visiting Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Iraq and Israel to study the ancient civilizations of the Middle East.  Kerr is currently touring and lecturing to promote his recently published book, Ancient Egypt and Us, which discusses the influence the ancient Egyptian civilization has on modern technologies, religions, art, war and social politics. Professor Kerr will be speaking at several museums in Southern California in July, and has recently returned from a two week lecture series in the Middle East.  While in Egypt, Kerr was one of a small group offered the opportunity to tour the recently opened burial chamber in the Bent Pyramid  near Cairo.

“I have been conducting research in Ancient Egypt since 1980, so I have twenty nine years of notes on the subject,” Kerr explains. “I’m thrilled to share all that I’ve been exposed to with others interested in this fascinating world.”

Mr. Kerr is working on his second book, The Black Pharaohs, to be published in 2010. He also writes a blog on current developments in the field, www.ancient-egypt-book.com. Proceeds from both books will support the University of Chicago’s Egyptologists, a select group of graduate students working in Egypt to record and restore ancient hieroglyphic texts and reliefs before they are damaged beyond repair.  Kerr is also involved with the Epigraphic Survey in Luxor.  Working together with the University of Chicago Egyptologists, they are helping the Egyptian government create infrastructure to secure the Ancient Egyptian temples from damage by rising water tables in the region.

“We have a very exciting new program launching in September-.When you check out the continuing education web page, there is an ever increasing list of courses offered. Many of them centered around the arts,” enthuses Kerr. ”The continuing education department at Edison State College is focused on reaching out to the interests and needs of the community.”
