Announcement of a New Hendry/Glades Center

Jun 4, 2009

Dear Colleagues,

I am happy to share with you a new development in the growth of Edison State College. For many years we have enjoyed a partnership with the LaBelle High School, offering college classes for students in the Hendry and Glades counties. The Decade of Promise master plan called for expanded services to these communities. In order to accomplish this, we identified a property for sale in LaBelle which contains 19 acres of land with two buildings totaling 20,000 square feet. This property is currently used by the Community Christian School which put it on the market for sale. This morning the District Board of Trustees authorized the administration to purchase this property for the College. Our goal is to begin classes in this new Edison State College Center for the fall 2009.

Dr. Patricia Land, President of the Charlotte County campus, has accepted responsibility for providing leadership and management for this new center. Dr. Land and her entire staff working on this project have the support of our District Board of Trustees, the executive administration, and the Hendry and Glades communities.

This expansion and growth of Edison State College will enable us to better serve those students who might not otherwise have access to higher education. I am very proud of everyone who has been involved in making this project possible. I thank you all for your continued hard work as we develop this center which is just the beginning of what will eventually lead to the establishment of a full-service campus to serve this area of our district.

Kenneth P. Walker

President
