Summer Construction Projects on Campus

May 7, 2009

A number of significant summer construction projects are planned for the Lee Campus beginning in early May.

While there will be some temporary inconvenience to students, faculty and staff due to building closures, a temporary reduction of parking spaces and the Summerlin Road entrance closure, we hope you will agree the results will pay off in the long-term with improved safety and traffic flow, additional parking spaces and more efficient use of dedicated space, energy requirements and comfort within the affected buildings.

Lee Campus summer projects:

Summerlin Road campus entrance.

The Summerlin Road entrance will be closed to all incoming and outgoing traffic beginning Monday, May 4. The closure will include parking lots #7, #8, and #9 and will last throughout the summer.  During this time, the entrance will be improved to enhance safety and traffic flow and Edison Parkway will be realigned to create one four-way stop at the southeast corner of Lake Mary Lee Mann (adjacent to Mann Hall).   The primary entrance to the Barbara B. Mann Hall will be via parking lot #6 which will remain open during the summer.   The Cypress Lake Drive and College Parkway entrances will serve as the primary campus entrances during this time.

Humanities Hall, "L" building.

Humanities Hall will close on Monday, May 4, and will remain closed throughout the summer to allow improvements to the electrical and HVAC systems.  The relocation of affected classes and personnel will begin on April 27 and faculty, staff and classes will be temporarily assigned different space throughout the summer months.  Humanities Hall will re-open for the fall semester.

The Bob Rauschenberg Gallery, Humanities Hall, "L" building.

The Rauschenberg Gallery will be closed for the summer, however, the Gallery's annual "Arts for Act" summer exhibit will be featured  on the first floor of Rush Library, adjacent to the Special Collections Gallery.  The exhibit will open June 26th and run through August 12.

Leonhardt Hall, "H" building.

Beginning Monday, May 4, the second floor of Leonhardt Hall will be closed throughout the summer to allow for renovations and the reconfiguration of classrooms.  Restrooms on both the first and second floors of Leonhardt Hall will be closed and updated throughout the summer as well.  The relocation of affected faculty, staff and classes will begin on April 27.

Q Building.

To more effectively align with student services located adjacent to Q building in Taeni Hall, Q building will close in mid-to-late summer for renovations to classrooms and computer labs.  When renovations are complete, the Academic Success Program will move into Q building.

Parking.

Two new parking lots will be built on campus throughout the summer and fall to help accommodate the increase in student enrollment.  A new lot with 235 spaces will be built next to Building B, adjacent to Walker Hall, and a second lot with 100 to 150 spaces will be built across from parking lot #5 on the west side of campus.

Nursing Building.

Construction moves into full swing this summer on the new two-story, 58,000 square foot building adjacent to Walker Hall on the north side of campus.  The nursing building will be constructed as a "green building" earning LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
