Commencement Ceremonies 2009

Edison State College celebrates its 47th Commencement Ceremony this week.

More than 1,600 students throughout the five-county area are candidates for graduation this year.  The Class of 2009 is the first class to graduate under the College’s new designation as a State College.

 

Ceremonies will be held on the Charlotte Campus Thursday, April 30th at 6:00pm in the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center, Harborside Event Center.  Syd Kitson, Chairman and CEO of Kitson & Partners, will be the featured speaker. Mr. Kitson and his company recently completed the purchase of nearby Babcock Ranch.  His company plans to build a sustainable, environmentally-friendly green community amidst the natural splendor of Florida’s undeveloped wilderness, not far from the Charlotte campus.

 

The Lee County ceremony will be held Friday, May 1st at 7:00pm at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall.  Hendry/Glades graduation candidates will also attend the Lee Campus ceremony. Carol Hudler, president and publisher of The News-Press and president of the South Group for Gannett Company, Inc.’s U.S. Community Publishing Division, will address the students as this year’s commencement speaker. 

 

The Collier Campus ceremony is also Friday, May 1st at 7:00pm at the Ritz-Carlton.  This year’s commencement speaker will be Adria Starkey. Adria Starkey serves on the grant committee for Naples Children and Education Foundation (NCEF), the advisory board for Community School of Naples and she was the 2008 recipient of the Holland Salley L.I.F.E. award.  

 

Graduates are earning bachelor degrees in Public Safety Management, Associates in Arts (AA) degrees, Associates in Science (AS) degrees and numerous certificate programs. Among the graduates as well are numerous high school students who have earned an AA degree while completing their high school graduation requirements.
