Lee Campus Commencement Set for May 1

This year’s 47th Commencement Ceremony at Edison State College will be one for the history books with the Class of 2009 becoming the first class to graduate under the college’s new name and designation as a state college.

 

Some 1,000 Lee Campus students are candidates for graduation on Friday, May 1, at 7:00 p.m.and approximately 350 will participate in the commencement ceremony to be held at Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall, located on the Lee Campus at 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.

 

Carol Hudler, president and publisher of The News-Press and president of the South Group for Gannett Company, Inc.’s U.S. Community Publishing Division, will address the students as this year’s commencement speaker.  A well-known business and community leader in Southwest Florida, Hudler will impart words of encouragement and inspiration to students as they exit Edison State and enter the workforce or continue their academic journey.

 

Grand Marshall Dr. Sharon Rooks, Professor of Humanities, will carry the Edison State Mace and will lead the procession. 

 

This year’s commencement ceremony will include graduates earning bachelor’s degrees in Public Safety Management, Associates in Arts (AA) degrees, Associates in Science (AS) degrees and numerous certificate programs. Among the graduates as well are numerous high school students who have earned an AA degree while completing their high school graduation requirements.
