Interested in learning a new skill? Want to advance your career? Looking for on-the-job-training for your employees? Edison College now offers continuing education CE programs in Hendry and Glades counties, many of which may be individualized for employers. Area resident Cynthia Miller has been hired to coordinate the program.
The position was recommended by the College’s Hendry/Glades Task Force in response to a Spring 2005 survey, in which employers expressed a high interest in computer training, leadership skills and conversational Spanish. Enrollment generated through continuing education programs will bolster the College’s efforts to establish the permanent campus in LaBelle to serve Hendry and Glades counties.
“I am looking forward to meeting the needs of the business community and the interests of individuals, Miller said. “ Edison College currently offers many wonderful CE programs that we want to bring to this area. We are also interested in adding to the list of existing classes.
Miller is currently finalizing plans to offer the first continuing education program, a course called “Command Spanish. “Command Spanish is a practical, learner-friendly program that teaches real-world Spanish phrases quickly and effectively, Miller said. “ Edison is the only provider of this program in a five-county area.
Miller, a lifetime resident of LaBelle, taught math and music in the Hendry County schools for fifteen years. Prior to accepting the position as coordinator of continuing education, Miller worked at Edison’s learning assistance lab in LaBelle.
Miller may be reached at cmiller@edison.edu, or by calling the Hendry/Glades Center of Edison at 863 674-0408. For information on how you can Help Grow A Campus, please call the Edison College Foundation at 863 674-0408.
