FSW Theatre Program Presents the Florida Premier of “Wellesley Girl” at the Black Box Theatre

OCTOBER 29, 2018 – FORT MYERS, FLA –Florida SouthWestern State College’s (FSW) Theatre program presents “Wellesley Girl,” opening at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8 in the FSW Black Box Theatre, Building L-119, 8099 College Parkway, Fort Myers.
It's the year 2465, and in many ways, the America of the future is quite different from today. It is possible to marry a robot; the country consists of just 3 walled-in New England towns; and the population is so small everyone is a member of Congress. In other ways, things seem alarmingly similar to today. When an invading army from Texas shows up outside their gate, the town's citizens must swallow their fear and decide what to do. Author Brendan Pelsue gives us a quirky, American future that is funny, dark and alarmingly prescient.
“This is a new play written in 2016 and premiered at the Humana Festival at Actor’s Theatre of Louisville,” said Stuart Brown, professor, theatre. “The play is funny and smart, but ultimately, dark. It is also quite relevant to Florida today.”
This play contains adult language and themes. The production runs Nov. 8-10 and Nov. 15-17. Tickets are $10 and are available at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3796013. Performances begin at 8 p.m. with additional matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
