FSW Presents Fall Research Lecture Series

OCTOBER  9, 2018 – FORT MYERS, FLA. – Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) presents its fall Research Lecture Series on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the FSW Thomas Edison Campus Rush Auditorium, Building J, Room 103. The Research Lecture Series will highlight the research several FSW faculty and students have focused on throughout the semester. The series is free and open to the public.

The series begin at 10:15 a.m. with FSW Marine Sciences Professor Dr. Michael Sauer presenting his research on “Variability in Dissolved Organic Matter in San Carlos Bay and Its Impact on Microbial Respiration and Measurements of Microalgal Chlorophyll a.”

From 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., FSW faculty and students will hold poster sessions on their projects and findings. Poster topics are “Surprised by Maud” by Dr. Amy Trogan, professor, English; “Effectiveness of Online Virtual Nursing Leadership Experiences-Comparative Analysis” by Margaret Kruger, professor, Nursing, and Martha Jenner, professor, Nursing; “The Effects of Motivation on Academic Performance in Traditional and Non-traditional Freshmen College Students” by Dr. Renee Hester, professor, Reading; “Nurse Supervisors and Certified Nursing Assistants: Leadership Characteristics and Job Satisfaction” by Dr. Jennifer Patterson professor, Management; “Life As Art: Collaboration and Experimentation” by Dr. Brandi George, professor, English; “Redefining College Readiness: What Institutional and National Research Means for the Future of Accelerated Students” by Dr. Amanda Sterk, director, Accelerated Programs; “Sustaining Mental Health: An Exploration of Integrative Psychiatry and Allopathic Medicine” by Janna Linehan; "Advancements in Hand Transplants and Upper Extremity Prosthetics: Which is Best for Those Seeking Appendage Replacement?" by Omar Zeidan; “Understanding Food Insecurity and Its Solutions” by Jacqueline Calderwood; “The Reality of Factory Farming” by Michelle Mcfatridge; and “Changes in Dissolved Organic Matter Light Absorption Characteristics Along a Salinity Gradient in the Caloosahatchee River and San Carlos Bay” by Jennifer Meader and Emma Jones.

Immediately following the poster session, FSW Corporate Training and Services Director Adrian Kerr will present “Egyptian Pyramids: Fact Versus Fiction” at 12:45 p.m.
