Classes resume on Monday, August 25, at Edison State College

 

New name, new opportunities await students at the Lee Campus as classes begin

 

Fort Myers, FL.  August 22, 2008 ---  Sporting “Ask Me” shirts and armed with enthusiasm, energy and information, student leaders, staff and faculty are ready to greet students on the first day of classes, Monday, August 25th, at the Lee Campus of Edison State College.

The Edison State “Ask Me” team will be working from dawn to dusk to help students navigate through their first day of classes and embrace their college experience at Edison State College.

Students will arrive on campus with the college bearing a new name – Edison State College.  While the physical transformation to Edison State College will occur over the next few months in terms of signage, books, and materials; students, faculty and the community have plenty to look forward to as Edison State College continues to grow and serve as a center for academic excellence and cultural activity in Southwest Florida.

A few highlights include:

 

  • New baccalaureate programs this fall with the launch of three new degree programs: a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Biology, a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Mathematics and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management. 
  • The opening of the Dr. Richard A. Rush Library late fall .
  • Student focused activities including “Club Rush” to recruit students into leadership positions and enhance service learning opportunities. 
  • Expanded business hours open until 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday to accommodate student work schedules.
  • A visit by renowned journalist, Tom Brokaw, as part of a new community lecture series.
  • The award winning production of “Wicked” headlines the Barbara B. Mann 2008-2009 Broadway Series.
