FSW to Host Special 9-11 Event

The Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) Foundation, in conjunction with the FSW Office of Veterans Affairs, is hosting a special event to commemorate the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and to honor US military veterans and first responders. The event is free and open to the public.

Prior to the event, FSW students and veterans will be placing 2,977 American flags, one for each person killed in the attacks of the World Trade Center buildings, the Pentagon and on a field in Pennsylvania.

The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 on the Fort Myers campus of FSW – on the lawn of the south side of Robinson Hall (Building I). There will be a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane struck the World Trade Center.

Scheduled to speak are: Senator Lizbeth Benacquisto, State Representative Dane Eagle, Lee County Sheriff’s Captain Carmine Marceno and Dr. Jeff Allbritten, President, FSW. Honored attendees scheduled include: US military war veterans, and fire engines representing the Iona-McGregor Fire Department, the City of Fort Myers Fire Department and the South Trail Fire Department.
