FSW Names Richter Men's Head Basketball Coach
Apr 22, 2015
A national search led to nearly 400 applicants, from Division I head coaches to National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Champions. In the end, the men’s head basketball coach was already in Southwest Florida. Marty Richter, the current men’s associate head basketball coach for Florida Gulf Coast University, was selected to lead the Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) Buccaneers as the men’s head basketball coach. FSW will compete in the fall 2016 in the NJCAA.
“We received an impressive number of resumes, including some big Division I names. In the end, we had to select a coach who could bring the skills needed to help our student-athletes compete and succeed at a national level,” said Carl McAloose, Athletic Director, FSW. “We also wanted a coach whose philosophy of success on the court extended to include leadership in our community and success in the classroom. “
Richter brings a history of success on a national level. While at Chipola College, he compiled a 69-4 record and a number one ranking, and played a big role in the success of FGCU’s NCAA tournament run to the Sweet 16 with all the fanfare of “Dunk City”. He has also worked as a basketball analyst for ESPN and as a top notch scout for ESPN’s Recruiting Nation.
“The opportunity to build something from ground zero is exciting. I think fans can expect an up-tempo, open court, free-flowing game,” said Richter. “I’ll be looking for players who display athleticism, but also a real love of the game. They will be part of the community and academic leaders in the FSW community.”
What Others Are Saying:
“Marty is one of the most passionate and humble coaches I have ever been around. His combination of knowledge, energy and love for basketball will make him a successful head coach and his team’s will mirror his personality.

“Marty Richter was the best hire I ever made. Marty is an incredible personality with an ability to relate to players, high school coaches and AAU staffs that makes him the perfect choice as Head Coach at Florida SouthWestern State College. In my 20-plus years as a college basketball coach, I never worked with a better person or a better assistant coach. As a Head Coach Marty Richter will bring unprecedented success on the court and represent FSW in an absolute first-class manner. Congratulations to FSW; you hired the absolute best when you hired Marty Richter.”
