FSW State College Professor Appointed to Two Advisory Councils

Jan 22, 2015

Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW) Professor Susan Torres has been appointed to two American Nurses Association (ANA) Advisory Councils.

“Each Council is different but equally important to current and future nurses,” said Susan Torres, Professor, FSW School of Health Professions Department of Nursing.  “This is a very important time to be a part of these councils to identify updates to nurse's scope and standards of practice and to identify the barriers to nurses practicing at the level of their license. What I think is really great is these issues are being reviewed nationally, not just within the state.”

Torres first served on the Advisory Council for the 2010 Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice 2nd edition. The advisory council reviewed this document and made suggestions and recommendations for changes through a survey administered by the ANA. Each council member participated independently in the survey which closed on Dec 12, 2014. The survey results are currently being analyzed and the results will be released in the coming months.

Recently Torres was appointed to the Advisory Council for the ANA Barriers to RN Scope of Professional Issues Panel.  This panel includes professionals with diverse levels of expertise to help identify and clarify barriers to RNs practicing to their full scope of practice.  As a member of this council, Torres will share knowledge and experiences to inform the work of the steering committee, respond to discussion questions posted on ANA NurseSpace, and provide input related to the development of resources to address barriers to RN Scope of Practice at the institutional, state and federal level.

Florida SouthWestern State College is Southwest Florida’s largest and one of the most affordable institutions of higher education.
