FSW Garners Seven AFC Regional and State Awards

NOVEMBER 10, 2014 – FORT MYERS, FLA. –During the 65th annual convention of the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) held in Destin, Fla. on Oct. 26-28, Florida SouthWestern State College and its employees garnered seven regional and state awards among all 28 Florida state and community colleges in the Florida College System.
Studio FSW received an exemplary practice award from the AFC Communications and Marketing Commission for the rebranding of Florida SouthWestern State College. Teresa Morgenstern, director, Communications and PIO, Studio FSW, presented “The ABCs of ESC to FSW,” which told the story of the FSW rebranding campaign.
Stacey Brown, director, Human Services, FSW, received an exemplary practice award from the AFC Learning Resources Commission. Her presentation “Mental Health Education for Administration, Faculty and Staff: Why It’s Critical” summarized general mental health information and statistical data regarding the frequency of mental illness among the general population as well as on the college campus, the stigma of mental illness, how mental illness effects college students, and what colleges can do to help.
Additionally, Sue Buntic, assistant director, Student Engagement, and Adriane Fike, student life specialist, FSW Office of Student Life, were selected as finalists in the Student Development Commission’s exemplary practice presentations for the FSW College-Wide Student Government Association program.
Crystal Maldonado, coordinator, Student Leadership and Civic Engagement, FSW, received a Region IV Unsung Hero Award for her work in building membership for the FSW AFC chapter.
Jennifer Young, public relations and marketing associate, Studio FSW, also received a Region IV Unsung Hero Award for filling multiple roles within the chapter executive board.
FSW’s AFC chapter received the 2014 Membership Award for “Greatest Percent Increase of Members Over Previous Year” across all 28 Florida state and community college AFC chapters. The chapter also received a membership award for reaching the five percent membership increase goal set by the state AFC office.
