Edison College Receives Approval to Add Three Bachelor's Programs

Feb 19, 2008

Edison College District President Kenneth P. Walker announces today that the Florida Board of Education has approved the College's request to offer three new Bachelor's degrees: Bachelor of Science [BS] degrees in Nursing and Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Applied Science [BAS] in Supervision and Management.

"Edison College's successful experience to date at the baccalaureate level prepares us well for expansion in these areas of need," said Walker. "We are delighted with the decision of the State Board, and anxious to contribute to the pool of well-prepared teachers, nurses with bachelor's degrees, and highly-prepared managers for Southwest Florida's business community."

The College plans to stagger program implementation beginning with Elementary Education and Supervision and Management in early 2009. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing will follow in August 2009. Currently, Edison is preparing to roll out two other bachelor's degree programs, secondary mathematics education and secondary biology education. Upper division classes in the secondary education programs will be initially offered at the Lee campus beginning August 2008. Class schedules for both full-time and part-time students are being developed, including evening classes to accommodate teaching assistants and paraprofessionals working within the field of education and desiring to become a secondary education teacher.
