Oct 13, 2014

Florida SouthWestern State College’s (FSW) Armed Service Members Continuing Education (A.C.E.) club, along with The Office of Student Life and The Veteran Affairs Office, are hosting a Pre-Veteran’s Day ceremony to honor all who have served our country.  This free event will take place from 1-3pm on Wednesday, November 5 at the Thomas Edison (Lee) Campus in Fort Myers.

The A.C.E. club will recognize local veterans for their service to our country.  Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2014 A.C.E. Veteran(s) of the year. Nomination forms will be sent out to local Veteran organizations and additional forms may be requested by emailing the A.C.E club directly at ACEVets2014@gmail.com. Deadline to submit completed nomination forms is October 28.

Additionally, FSW and the A.C.E. club will be accepting donations to send care packages to military personnel serving overseas.  Attendees who provide donations will be eligible for raffle prizes.  Suggested donations include items such as baby wipes, deodorant, first aid supplies, pens, pencils, feminine hygiene products, gum, toiletries, notebooks, foot powder, and protein bars.  For more information, email ACEVets2014@gmail.com.

“Our service men and women are an amazing gift to our great nation,” said Denise Thompson, Veterans Affairs Specialist for Florida SouthWestern State College.  “We hope that this event will be a small gesture that shows them how much we respect and appreciate their sacrifices.”

Florida SouthWestern State College is Southwest Florida’s largest and one of the most affordable institutions of higher education.
