Buccaneer Player Now Head Baseball Coach
Jul 1, 2014
Jamie Corr started his college baseball career as a utility player for Edison Community College in 1993. Fast forward to 2014 and he returns as the head baseball coach for the newly-named Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW). His first day will be July 17.
“It really amazed me the quantity and quality of applicants for our head baseball coach position,” said Carl McAloose, Director of Athletics, FSW. “We had incredible talent, including very successful NCAA I and II coaches apply for this position, and among all of this talent, we felt Coach Corr was the best fit for us. His experience as a successful program builder and a winner combined with the fact that he wore our uniform during his college days separated him from an incredible field of coaching candidates. With the City of Palms being our home, a beautiful campus, and now with Coach Corr leading the team, I expect a very exciting and successful future for FSW baseball.”
“I am very excited and very honored to have this opportunity to return to Edison, now Florida SouthWestern and lead the Buccaneers,” said Corr. “I have a lot of fond memories of the area. I’ll be hitting the recruitment trail hard to find young men who will represent FSW in a first-class manner. With the beautiful City of Palms Stadium, I know we can recruit players who will have not only an incredible playing experience, but also get an excellent education.”
Corr joins FSW after leading Lambert High School in Cumming, Georgia to the USA Today and Collegiate Baseball National Championship and winning the 6A State Championship with a 36-2 record. Corr was named the USA Today National Coach of the Year. Corr joins new Buccaneers Softball Coach Robert Iamurri, who also was bestowed the honor of being named national coach of the year.
Corr opened the program at Lambert High School in 2009 and built the baseball team into a state power house, quickly bringing national credibility to the program. Prior to Lambert, he was the Head Coach at South Forsyth High in Cumming, GA where he led the team to a #1 ranking in the state and was the 5A State Runner-up. Corr has collegiate coaching experience at Darton College, in Albany, Georgia; Augusta State University and Valdosta State University.
“Jamie is going to do a wonderful job and bring a lot of energy to the program. He’s an all-in type of guy,” said Dave Tollett, Head Baseball Coach, Florida Gulf Coast University. “It will be great for us because in 15 minutes we can be there to watch FSW play. We would love to get some FSW players; it’s good to have another baseball program in town.”
“Jamie is fundamentally sound and pays attention to detail. His players play with a lot of passion,” said Scott Stricklin, Head Baseball Coach, University of Georgia. “He really knows the game and is a very good teacher. There’s no question he will have great players, which I would be interested in for my team.”
“He is one of the best high school coaches in the state (of Georgia) and knows how to develop players,” said Danny Hall, Head Baseball Coach, Georgia Tech University. “He’ll hit the ground running because he knows what a good player looks like. As a coach, he’s very fair, but also demanding.”
