Edison State College Graduate Receives DeSoto County Teacher of the Year Award

Edison State College School of Education graduate, Stephanie Langford, was recognized as 2015 DeSoto County Teacher of the Year. Langford has been a Kindergarten teacher at Memorial Elementary School for almost 2 years, and worked with the DeSoto County School District for 10 years.

“I am truly honored to have been selected as the 2015 District Teacher of the Year for DeSoto County. I am just one of many educators who pour their heart and soul into making a difference in the life of a child,” said Stephanie Langford, Kindergarten Teacher at Memorial Elementary School. “My journey as a teacher has just begun and has definitely been most rewarding. I am blessed to represent a county who strives to reach the diverse needs of our students on a daily basis. Being selected as the ‘2015 District Teacher of the Year’ will forever be a highlight in my career.”

In addition to teaching, Langford is also involved in other organizations and activities.  At Memorial Elementary she has served in a variety of leadership roles.  Langford serves on the Accelerated Reader and Yearbook committees, has taught Robotics for third, fourth and fifth grade students in the 21st Century After-School Program before accepting the position of Program Coordinator, serves as the school representative for the Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Council and Curriculum Coach for grades kindergarten through second, is the co-secretary for the Bull-Pup Booster’s Organization and an active member of the School Advisory Council. Outside of the school Langford dedicates time to serving her community, volunteering with an annual benefit she helps coordinate for Tidewell-Hospice of DeSoto County, Christmas Card Lane sponsored by the DeSoto County Chamber of Commerce, and serves in various leadership roles through her church. Langford received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (Magna Cum Laude) from Edison State College in December 2013.   

This program, the Florida Department of Education Macy’s Teacher of the Year, recognizes and honors the contributions of outstanding teachers who inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities. Recipients are nominated at each school by faculty and staff and selected by the FLDOE and Macy’s based on their superior ability to teach and communicate knowledge of the subject taught, along with their professional development and school and community service.

Celebrating more than 50 years of excellence, Edison State College is Southwest Florida’s largest, most accessible and ranked nationally as one of the most affordable institutions of higher education. Serving more than 22,000 students per year regionally, nationally, and internationally, students are also active in a wide variety of clubs and programs that cater to their interests. Nationally, Edison State is ranked 45th among associate degree producers and 26th for its prestigious associate producing Nursing program.
