Edison School of Education Hosts Pinning Ceremony

May 7, 2013

They started as students, and on April 29, 2013, they became teachers. The Edison State College School of Education held its annual pinning ceremony to honor the students who will received their Bachelor of Education Degree on May 3, 2013 at Germain Arena.  The event is a bi-annual ritual that welcomes them into the world of education from their once former instructors, and now colleagues.

Dr. Erin Harrel, Dean of the School of Education, was elated at the turnout of those not only in attendance, but those who have completed the program successfully.

“This is my favorite time of year, where I get to see all of the hard work pay off for these students who are now becoming colleagues, “she said.

The program also featured the professors of the department who participate in and plan the event. The professors engaged in a delightful skit entitled “You Know you’re a Teacher If…” which kept the crowd entertained and roaring with proud laughter. The students recognized Dr. Anne Angstrom, Dr. Christy Duda and Professor Joyce Rollins for their commitment and dedication to their students. Professors Rollins, Chair of the School of Education called every graduate by name. Professor Rollins ensures Edison School of Education students are not just a number in the system. She proudly stated, “These are educators prepared to transform the future”.

The School of Education graduated 44 educators in Friday’s graduation ceremony, and of that number, 19 have already been offered and accepted positions within the Lee County Public School District.  Dr. Harrel and her staff are very anxious to produce the best of the best, and Monday’s program proved them correct.
