At Edison State College, April Concerts To Shower B.B. Mann With Beautiful Music

Rain may be the one act of nature to put a damper on one’s day associated with the month of April, but the Edison State College Music Department will let the sun shine in with an exciting series of concerts that is sure to leave you wanting more. During the month of April, the college will be featuring the Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, Symphony Orchestra, and the College Choir. All of the shows are free and will be at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall, on the campus of Edison State College.
On April 15, 2013, at 7:30 pm, the Edison State College Jazz Ensemble has an exciting concert scheduled for their end-of-semester event. This 20- piece Jazz Big Band, comprised of some of the finest musicians in Southwest Florida, will be performing both new and traditional Big Band Jazz. Featured in the program will be Tom Kubis' On Purple Porpoise Parkway, Thad Jones' Don't Git Sassy, Sammy Nestico's Wind Machine, Billy Strayhorn's Lush Life, Mark Taylor's Trinita, and much more. Don't miss this night of instrumental and vocal jazz.
Come and join us on April 21, 2013, at 7:30 pm, for the spring band concert. The show will feature the acclaimed ESC Wind Ensemble with renowned flutists William and Beth Larsen, performing Andante and Rondo by Franz Doppler. The Wind Ensemble will also perform the beautiful Washburn Concertino and Ron Nelson's exciting favorite, Rocky Point Holiday. Join the ESC Concert Band for the second half of the program as they play wind band classics! Included in the program will be Ralph Vaughn Williams' Folk Song Suite, Frank Erickson's Time and the Winds, John Williams' Symphonic Marches, and Sammy Nestico's Tribute to Harry James, featuring ESC trumpeter Darryll Bauchert.
On April 28th, at 3:00 pm, the ESC Symphony Orchestra and Choir will be hosting a combined concert to close out the concert season. Under the direction of Professor Candace Baranowski-Sundby, the Choir and Orchestra will perform one of Franz Schubert's masterworks: the reverential and reflective Mass No.2 in G. Immediately following the choir's performance, the ESC Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Thomas Smith, will feature the talents of student saxophone soloist, Gabriel Wallace, as he performs the famous Glazunov Saxophone Concerto, one of the pillars of classical saxophone literature. Also on the program will be the beloved Finlandia, by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, a stirring symphonic offering based upon the national anthem of Finland. Rounding out the concert will be Aaron Copland's delightful orchestral favorite: Hoedown.
