ECHS Charlotte maintains straight A's
Jul 17, 2012
PUNTA GORDA – Every parent hopes to see straight A’s on their child’s report card, and for the third consecutive year Edison Collegiate High School delivered just that.
With 660 points – 135 more than required by the Florida Department of Education– ECHS earned the A grade. With the distinction in each of its first three years of existence, ECHS also can apply for High-Performing status.
“Every student, their parents, faculty members and staff at Edison Collegiate High School take tremendous pride in maintaining the highest level of academic excellence,” ECHS principal Diane Juneau said. “To continually be recognized by the state is a testament to the hard work and dedication of so many wonderful people.”
The 660 points also established a new record for ECHS. The school earned its first A with 628 points in 2010, with a second A in 2011 a result of 634 points.
The grading system for the Florida School Recognition Program is based on student’s Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) and End-Of-Course (EOC) results. While ECHS scored extremely well in all categories, it was the only high school in Southwest Florida to have 100 percent of its students to score satisfactory or higher on the writing exam.
Entering its fourth year, ECHS welcomes its first senior class in August with its first graduation ceremony scheduled for May 2013. As Charlotte County’s only charter school, ECHS offers students the ability to graduate with both their high school diploma and an Associate’s Degree from Edison State College at no additional cost.
Admission to ECHS is based on a random lottery with all ninth-grade eligible students welcome to apply. Open enrollment begins in January with the application and deadline details available online. For more information please visit ECHS.edison.edu or call 941-637-5673.
