FREE ESC SPRING CONCERTS AT BARBARA B. MANN
For many years, Edison State College has presented a series of concerts to the general public for free. It’s that time again.
“It's an opportunity to enjoy three nights of outstanding music," said Dr. Thomas Smith, musical director. "Talented musicians will perform Broadway Show tunes; American Concert Band Music; innovative works for Big Band and small group jazz; and some of the most memorable compositions ever written for the Symphony Orchestra.”
The following shows are free and open to the public:
April 17, 2012 Edison State College Symphony Orchestra and Edison State College Choir Combined Concert Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall
7:30 p.m.
The Edison State College Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Thomas Smith, will perform some of the best loved orchestral works ever written: The Hebrides Overture (Fingal’s Cave) by Felix Mendelssohn, The Pulcinella Suite by Igor Stravinsky, Quiet City by Aaron Copland, featuring student soloists Jayla Gillaspie (English Horn), and Tito Alvizuris (Trumpet). Also on the program will be Haydn’s Concerto in C for Cello, featuring student performer, Ronnie Wisniewski.
Under the Direction of Candace Baranowski-Sundby, and accompanied by Mary Griffin-Seal, the Edison State College Choir will be performing works from some of the greatest Musical productions of all time including selections from: H.M.S. Pinafore (Gilbert & Sullivan), Showboat (Jerome Kern), South Pacific (Richard Rodgers), and A Chorus Line (Marvin Hamlisch). One of the finest mixed choruses in the region, the Edison State College Choir is a group not to be missed.

The Edison State College Jazz Ensemble has an exciting concert scheduled for their end of semester event. This 20 piece Jazz Big Band, comprised of some of the finest musicians in Florida, will be swingin’ the night away as they perform both new and traditional Big Band jazz. Featured on the program will be works by Gordon Goodwin; Bob Brookmeyer; Duke Ellington; Thelonius Monk; and many more. Don’t miss this night of instrumental and vocal Jazz.

The Edison State College Concert Band’s Spring Concert will be an eclectic mix of classic Band and Wind Ensemble favorites. Included on the program will be: First Suite In Eb (Gustav Holst); Suite of Old American Dances (Robert Russell Bennett); The Cowboys (John Williams); Sammy Nestico’s Persuasion featuring alto saxophone soloist, Zach Deeter; and The Carnival of Venice (J.B. Arban), featuring trumpet soloist, Antonio Castillo. If you are a fan of great American Band Music, this is an experience that should not be missed. This talented group carries on the tradition of the classic American Wind Band and delivers it with a 21st century performance.
