One of the Best Kept Secrets at ESC: Free Concerts
For many years, Edison State College has presented a series of concerts to the general public for free. It’s that time again.
“It’s an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon concert of outstanding music,” said Dr. Thomas Smith, musical director. “It’s a chance for our musicians to showcase their talent, give back to the community and have a lot of fun.”
Sunday, November 20 Edison State College Jazz Ensemble
This afternoon concert features many of the finest jazz musicians and vocalists in the region performing new and traditional selections from big band era jazz. The program includes Maynard Ferguson’s, “Cruisin’ for a Bluesin,” Tadd Dameron’s, “Ladybird,” Oscar Hammerstein’s, “All the Things You Are,” and Oliver Nelson’s, “Stolen Moments.”

Monday, December 5 Edison State College Symphony Orchestra and Edison State College Chorale Combined Concert The Edison State College Chorale will be joined onstage by the Riverdale High School Chorus, as they perform excerpts from “Messiah.” Included on the program will be the “Hallelujah Chorus,” “Comfort Ye My People,” and “Every Valley Shall Be Exalted,” along with many more selections from George Friedrich Handel. In addition, the Edison Symphony Orchestra will perform the Overture from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Orchestral Suite No.2 in B minor, BWV 1067, for string orchestra and flute; and one of Franz Joseph Haydn’s most famous “London” symphonies: “The Clock,” Symphony No. 101.
