Nov 12, 2007
Joseph Horn Thomas, Edison College Professor of History and Advisor to the Lee Campus Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, announces the induction of 72 students to the international honor society at a candlelight ceremony Friday evening, October 26, 2007 in Taeni Hall.
Phi Theta Kappa recognizes and encourages scholarship through opportunities for the development of leadership and service, for the exchange of ideas and ideals, and for fellowship among scholars. Membership is by invitation, with eligibility requirements of 12 hours of completed college coursework toward a degree, grade point average of 3.5, and adherence to the moral standards of the society.
Membership Chapter activities are guided by Thomas and led by the 2007-08 officers: Jose R. Garcia, President; Yessenia Iglesias, Vice President of Leadership; Christina Theogene, Vice President of Scholarship; Ana Abella, Vice President of Service and Karla P. Dias, Secretary. Activities include visits to other college and university campuses, attend leadership seminars, and volunteer in numerous charitable activities on campus and in the community including the cancer and heart walks and Edison POPS @ Sunset concert.
“It was an honor to have been in the presence of seventy-two extraordinary students that were inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, Omicron Epsilon Chapter,” said Jose R. Garcia, Chapter President. “It was a privilege to meet the families and friends of the inductees who were there to share this experience. We are looking forward to a successful and prosperous year where we will continue with our community service projects on campus as well as in the community.”
Edison College is regionally accredited to award baccalaureate degrees, associate degrees, and certificates. Approximately 17,000 credit-seeking students are served each year through campuses in Charlotte, Collier, and Lee counties, sites in LaBelle and Clewiston, and online classes.
