PUNTA GORDA – The Tampa Bay Area Writing Project has selected Edison State College Professor Natala Orobello to participate in its Invitational Summer Institute hosted at the University of South Florida.
The TBAWP is an affiliate of the Florida Writing Projects Network and the National Writing Project. Through a partnership with USF, the five week summer institute translates into six graduate level credit hours and certification as a Lead Teacher.
“I guess I just never stop teaching,” said Orobello, an English professor on the Charlotte campus. “It’s not a matter of thinking about it, I’m always thinking of ways to reach students … it’s just who I am.
“For me it’s exciting, definitely not a chore.”
The institute invites educators of all levels and disciplines from throughout the state each year. The rigorous application process included completion of essay questions ranging from personal teaching experiences to what each candidate considered their greatest teaching asset and a formal interview that included an instruction lesson before a panel of fellow educators.
The institute, which begins June 20 and runs through July 21, is designed to send attendees back throughout the state as certified Lead teachers ready to help their peers better implement reading and writing into all disciplines.
“Professor Orobello once again demonstrates the high quality of Edison's and the Charlotte Campus' faculty,” said Dr. Thomas Rath, Dean of Academic Affairs on the Charlotte campus. “We are very proud of her accomplishment and continued dedication to education.”
