Biography

Dr. Caroline Seefchak, Professor of Reading/Literacy, has been an educator for almost three decades and has twenty years’ experience in K-12 teaching and administration. She holds a Ph.D. in curriculum from Northcentral University, a Master of Science degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Barry University. She has earned post-doctoral certificates from Appalachian State University and from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. At FSW, she was a Professor of English for five years before joining the School of Education in 2014. She is the 2012 recipient of the NISOD Excellence Award and has earned national recognition as the sixth highest scoring professor, 2011-2012, on RateMyProfessors. In 2015-2016, she was awarded FSW Faculty of the Year. Dr. Seefchak is currently chair of the Learning Assessment Committee, a standing committee of the College. She has previously held chair positions on the Academic Research Council, the Professional Development Committee, and the Department of Developmental Studies. She has two published books and is working on a third, and she has presented at numerous national and international professional conferences. Her current research interests include evolving literacies, cognitive development, and the role of cerebral executive function in the learning process.
