Program Details
The Associate in Science degree in Fire Science Technology is designed to provide advanced educational opportunities for fire service personnel. Students gain both knowledge and experience useful to career advancement in the challenging field of fire service.
The program is designed both for students who have completed Florida firefighting minimum standards training, and those interested in expanding career opportunities in the field of fire science. Fire Science Technology courses are designed to fit into the work schedule of employed fire service personnel.
This program articulates into the Florida SouthWestern State College Bachelor of Applied Science in Public Safety Administration. Students intending to transfer to a bachelor's degree program are strongly encouraged to consult with the transferring institution regarding the choice of elective credit. Certifications
The Fire Science Technology (AS) curriculum includes courses that meet the state requirements and provide preparation for the following certifications:
- Fire Officer I
- Firesafety Inspector I
Course Offerings
All of our classes are offered as 6 week classes online with the exception of FFP 1510: Fire Codes and Standards and FFP 2521: Constructions Documents and Plans Review (these two courses are offered as in-person class on the Lee Campus). Program Prerequisites
Florida Firefighting Minimum Standards training is strongly recommended, but not required at this time. We will articulate credit for the FFP 1000 course for students who have obtained a Florida Fire Certificate. However, student must enroll at Florida SouthWestern State College in the AS in Fire Science Technology degree program within three (3) years of completion of the Florida Fire Certificate in order to redeem the college credit.
